There was commotion in Ibadan, Oyo State as Governor Abiola Ajimobi presented staff of office to the newly appointed 21 Obas in Ibadanland under tight security despite the controversy surrounding the appointment of some monarchs.
In the commotion that erupted, the state correspondent of the Leadership Newspaper, Mr Adebayo Waheed was slapped several times by the Special Assistant to the governor on Security, Mr Bolarinwa for no just cause.
The governor’s aide, who led other security operatives at the Mapo Hall gate, venue of the coronation was asking the people at the gate to leave when he suddenly moved towards Mr Adebayo Waheed who was going about his lawful duty of reporting the event and slapped him without any reason.
Astonished by the harassment and assaults, Mr Adebayo had to report the incident to the chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Correspondent Chapel, Mr Ola Ajayi and other colleagues.
Also, as the security operatives swooped on journalists, the PM News correspondent, Mr Adesina Adegbenro, was beaten up and lost his handset in the process.
Several other people were also maltreated by the security operatives.
However, an international nonprofit organization, Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), an independent body that promotes press freedom worldwide, exclusively informed MetroNews NG of its interest in the case.
