Screening

At least 15 ministerial nominees had as of Sunday submitted their credentials to the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Abdullahi Gumel, ahead of screening by the National Assembly which begins today.

Some of the nominees, whose documents were spotted, included the Women Leader of the All Progressive Congress, Betty Edu; Uju Ohaneye; Tunde Ojo; Abubakar Danladi, Uche Nnaji; and former Nexim Bank, Managing Director, Stella Okotette.

Our correspondent saw Okotiette’s papers being dropped at around 6:30 pm on Sunday.

Recall that the Senate will begin the screening of the ministerial nominees on Monday.

The Senate President had on Thursday unveiled President Bola Tinubu’s 28-man ministerial-nominee list.

The spokesperson for the Senate, Yemi Adaramodu, said the screening of the nominees by the Senate would commence on Monday.

Following the announcement, Gumel, on Friday, said the nominees were expected to visit the office of the SSA, located at AB 25, Basement, National Assembly complex, between 28 July and 30 July “for necessary documentation, ahead of the screening, which commences on Monday 31 July.”

“Documentation for ministerial nominees has commenced and the nominees are expected to complete all necessary processes before the screening,” he added.

A source privy to information told our correspondent that 15 out of the 28 ministerial nominees had dropped their documents.

The source said, “ About 15 of them have submitted their documents. Many of them, especially the big ones, use the Villa gate and enter into the office of the SSA straight to submit their documents and leave.”
