Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards 2026: “My Father’s Shadow” Dominates as Uzor Arukwe, Linda Ejiofor Shine Big

The 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards 2026 lit up the entertainment industry on Saturday night as Africa’s biggest film and television stars gathered at the Eko Hotel and Suites for a celebration of excellence in film, television, and digital storytelling.

The prestigious ceremony, which began at 7 p.m., was broadcast live across Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv, while viewers also streamed the event via DStv Stream and GOtv Stream.

One of the night’s biggest winners was “My Father’s Shadow,” which clinched multiple major awards, including Best Movie, Best Director for Akinola Davies Jr, Best Writing (Movie) for Wale Davies, and Best Sound/Sound Design.

“Colours of Fire” also enjoyed a successful outing, winning Best Costume Design and Best Art Direction, while Uzor Arukwe earned the Best Lead Actor award for his role in the production.

In the acting categories, Linda Ejiofor emerged as Best Lead Actress for “The Serpent’s Gift” and also secured the Best Supporting Actress award for “The Herd,” making her one of the standout performers of the evening.

The Best Supporting Actor category was won by Bucci Franklin for his performance in “To Kill a Monkey,” which also picked up the Best Cinematography award.

In the indigenous language categories, “Lisabi: A Legend Is Born,” produced by Lateef Adedimeji, won Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa), while productions from East, Central, North, and Southern Africa also received recognition for outstanding storytelling across the continent.

Digital creators were not left out as “Leave To Live” by Emmanuel Kanaga and Sophia Chisom won Best Digital Content Creator, highlighting the growing influence of online storytelling in Africa’s entertainment industry.

The Trailblazer Award went to Uche Montana, while veteran actors Sola Sobowale and Kanayo O. Kanayo were honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award for their contributions to the African film industry.

Other notable winners included “Inimba” for Best Scripted Series and Best Indigenous M-Net Original, “Nigerian Idol” Season 10 for Best Unscripted Series, and “The Low Priest” for Best Scripted M-Net Original.

The annual awards continue to celebrate creativity, cultural storytelling, and cinematic excellence across Africa, reinforcing the continent’s growing influence in global entertainment.
