Abuja — The Federal Government has unveiled a cutting-edge digital system designed to resolve tax disputes seamlessly and at no cost to taxpayers.
Speaking during the launch of the Office of the Tax Ombud’s new website, toll-free call centre, and digital case management platform, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, described the move as a major step toward a fairer and more transparent tax administration system.

Oyedele said: “Nigeria’s tax administration is entering a new phase where taxpayers are partners in national development, not opponents of government.” He emphasized that a credible tax system should not focus solely on revenue collection but must also treat citizens fairly whenever disagreements arise.
The Office of the Tax Ombudsman, he noted, provides Nigerians with an independent and accessible channel for resolving tax-related complaints and mediating disputes involving tax authorities. The new digital platforms are expected to make it easier for taxpayers nationwide to file complaints, track cases, and access support without physical barriers or additional costs.

“The good news is that these services are completely free. Taxpayers can now access dispute resolution processes more easily, regardless of location,” Oyedele added.
Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, highlighted that the platforms are not just technological innovations but tools to enhance citizen-focused service delivery. She urged officials to ensure the website remains informative and that the toll-free call centre operates efficiently, improving tracking, resolution times, and communication between the government and taxpayers.
Dr. John Nwabueze, Tax Ombud and CEO of the Office of the Tax Ombud, described the launch as a “new approach to taxpayer services in Nigeria,” offering online complaint submissions, real-time case tracking, and guidance from trained support staff. He stressed that the platforms align with international standards and aim to build public trust in the tax system.
Executive Secretary of the Joint Revenue Board, Mr. Olusegun Adesokan, added that the new office strengthens fairness and accountability in tax administration, helping to resolve disputes independently while encouraging voluntary compliance.
The initiative is part of broader government reforms to simplify tax processes, protect taxpayers’ rights, and promote transparency, aiming to make Nigeria’s tax system more citizen-friendly and trustworthy.
