Peter Obi’s One-Term Promise Sparks Credibility Debate as Presidency Questions Loyalty

The Presidency has cast doubt on the credibility of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following his recent pledge to serve only one term if elected president in 2027.

Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, questioned Obi’s political consistency and loyalty, pointing to his previous affiliation with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

According to Onanuga, Obi had once vowed never to leave APGA, the party under which he became governor of Anambra State. He also recalled that Obi reportedly made a strong pledge of allegiance to the late APGA leader, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

In a statement posted on his X account, Onanuga argued that Obi’s movement across different political parties over the years raises questions about the reliability of his current promise to Nigerians. He maintained that Obi’s political history suggests a pattern of shifting allegiances and changing commitments.

The remarks come amid increasing political discussions and strategic alignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election, where Obi is widely expected to remain a prominent opposition figure.
