APC House of Representatives aspirant for Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Abdulkareem Olugbenga Shittu, has condemned the alleged destruction of his campaign billboards across parts of the constituency, describing the incidents as an attack on democracy and political freedom.
In a statement released by his media team, Shittu called for restraint, justice, and respect for democratic principles, while expressing concerns over what he described as attempts to intimidate his supporters and suppress political participation.
According to the statement, the repeated destruction of campaign materials goes beyond vandalism and reflects a wider effort to silence opposition voices within the constituency.
“It has become imperative to address a disturbing pattern that has continued unchecked in recent weeks — the deliberate destruction of campaign materials belonging to Hon. Abdulkareem Olugbenga Shittu,” the statement read.
The media team further alleged that supporters of the aspirant have faced intimidation and obstruction from participating in established party structures in areas such as Ijede and Igbogbo.
Shittu maintained that despite the alleged provocations, his camp has remained peaceful and law-abiding, stressing that silence should not be interpreted as acceptance of injustice.
The APC aspirant questioned why individuals confident in their popularity and political achievements would allegedly resort to acts capable of undermining fair political engagement.
He also emphasized that all resources deployed for his political activities were acquired through legitimate means and personal sacrifice, not public funds.
“The destruction of these materials is not only an attack on an individual but a direct affront to fairness, equity, and the democratic process itself,” the statement added.
Shittu called on party leaders, community stakeholders, and relevant authorities in Ikorodu to investigate the incidents and prevent further escalation of tensions ahead of the 2027 elections.
He warned that the constituency must not become a place where intimidation replaces dialogue and coercion overshadows the will of the people.
“The will of the people must prevail, freely, fairly, and without fear,” the statement concluded.
