Actor and filmmaker Lateef Adedimeji has expressed gratitude after his historical epic Lisabi: A Legend Is Born secured two awards at the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards held in Lagos on Saturday.
The film emerged winner in the Best Makeup and Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa) categories, continuing the franchise’s impressive award-winning streak.
Reacting to the achievement in a post shared on X, Adedimeji described the recognition as a rewarding moment for everyone involved in the production. He noted that the sequel successfully retained the same categories won by Lisabi: The Uprising at the previous AMVCA edition.
According to him, the victories reflected the dedication, sacrifices, and hard work invested in the project.
“The past few weeks have been filled with heartwarming moments and overwhelming love. Winning Best Makeup and Best Indigenous Movie from West Africa elevated the entire story for us. We did it before, and we have done it again,” he wrote.
The filmmaker also thanked the AMVCA organisers, fans, cast members, and crew for their support and contributions to the success of the movie.
He gave special recognition to director Niyi Akinmolayan and renowned makeup artist Hakeem Effect for their roles in the production.
Adedimeji further acknowledged his wife, actress and producer Mo Bimpe Oyebade, describing her as a strong partner and co-executive producer who played a key role in bringing the project to life.
Lisabi: A Legend Is Born is a historical drama rooted in Yoruba history and themes of resistance. The film’s back-to-back AMVCA victories further highlight the growing recognition of indigenous storytelling in African cinema.
The 12th AMVCA ceremony featured 32 award categories celebrating excellence in African film, television, and digital content.
