UBA Debunks Viral Divorce Rumours About Tony Elumelu, Warns of Legal Action

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has strongly denied circulating social media reports alleging that its Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, has divorced his wife, describing the claims as false, malicious, and defamatory.

In an official statement issued by the bank’s Group Head of Brand, Marketing and Corporate Communications, Alero Ladipo, UBA said the reports were entirely fabricated and aimed at misleading the public while tarnishing the reputation of its chairman.

The bank further disclosed that three individuals — Kingsley Akunemeihe, Chigozie Success Ihebom, and John Surpruchi Nwanorue — have been arrested by law enforcement authorities in connection with the spread of the publication.

According to the statement, investigations are ongoing and may result in additional arrests and prosecutions of those involved in originating or amplifying the false claims.

UBA also issued a stern warning to individuals and platforms sharing the content, directing them to immediately remove the публикации and desist from further dissemination. The bank urged all parties to preserve relevant records, including digital communications and metadata, pending potential legal action.

The statement emphasized that failure to comply would attract legal consequences, including lawsuits for defamation, injunctive relief, and damages.

Reaffirming its stance, UBA stated it remains committed to protecting the integrity and reputation of both its brand and its chairman, adding that it will pursue all necessary civil and criminal actions to hold those responsible accountable.
