Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Urges Defectors to Return as PDP Seeks Revival Ahead of Key Convention

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has called on former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to return and contribute to rebuilding the party amid ongoing efforts to reposition it for national relevance.

Akpoti-Uduaghan made the appeal in Abuja during the inauguration of the PDP National Convention Committee, where she emphasised the need for unity and collective responsibility.

According to the Kogi Central lawmaker, the experience and institutional knowledge of defected members remain crucial to restoring the party’s strength and influence in Nigeria’s political landscape.

She expressed optimism that the convention signals a turning point for the PDP, noting a sharp decline in its Senate representation—from 37 lawmakers to just six—largely due to internal disputes and leadership challenges.

“When I asked colleagues why they left, they cited internal crises. But I tell them, it’s not greener on the other side. They are welcome back,” she said.

Chairman of the Convention Committee and former Abia State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, described the moment as critical for the party’s future, urging members to seize the opportunity for renewal.

Ikpeazu acknowledged the PDP’s internal struggles and legal battles but pointed to a recent appellate court decision affirming the National Caretaker Working Committee as a fresh start for reconciliation and rebuilding.

He stressed that genuine reconciliation must be anchored on honesty, sincerity, and mutual respect among party stakeholders.

“What the PDP needs now is honest reconciliation—rooted in truth and sustained by mutual respect,” he said.

The event marks a significant step in the PDP’s efforts to overcome internal divisions and reposition itself as a formidable force ahead of future elections.
