‘I Messed Up’ — Fido Apologises, Blames Ego and Inexperience for Past Actions

Fast-rising Nigerian singer Fido has publicly apologised for his past remarks and actions, admitting that ego, excitement and inexperience shaped some of his decisions amid his sudden rise to fame.

In a statement shared on X, the “Joy Is Coming” crooner took full responsibility for his conduct, acknowledging that the pressures of stardom caught up with him before he had fully grown into his new reality.

“There’s no easy way to write this, so I’ll just say it plainly. I messed up,” he wrote.

Reflecting on his journey, Fido said fame came faster than he anticipated, leaving him to navigate personal growth under public scrutiny.
“Stardom came into my life quickly. One minute I was dreaming about it, the next minute I was living it… I allowed ego, excitement, and inexperience to influence some of my decisions. That’s not who I want to be. And it’s not who I’m becoming,” he stated.

The singer extended an apology to his loyal fans who continued to support him, as well as critics who held him accountable rather than “cancelling” him.

Fido also addressed the wider Afrobeats industry, offering remorse to veterans, colleagues and stakeholders who may have felt disappointed by his words or actions.

“To the global Afrobeats community, the legends and godfathers who opened these doors before me… I apologise. Truly,” he wrote.

He said he has taken time to reflect and learn from his mistakes, choosing humility over pride.

“It takes strength to admit you were wrong. It takes maturity to retrace your steps. I’m doing both,” he added.

Promising growth and renewed focus, Fido assured fans that his upcoming music would reflect deeper introspection and gratitude.

“The music you’re about to hear will come from a deeper place. A more honest place. A more grateful place,” he said.

Describing the moment as one of personal evolution, the singer concluded: “This is growth. This is maturity. This is me doing better. It’s game time again.”

The apology marks what appears to be a reset for the rising star as he seeks to rebuild trust and reposition himself within Nigeria’s vibrant Afrobeats scene.
