Fadahunsi Defects to APC, Backs Tinubu’s Second Term Over Osun Infrastructure Gains

Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, has said his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was driven by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s infrastructural and social development strides in Osun State.

Fadahunsi, a two-term senator, defected in 2025 alongside Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central) and three House of Representatives members—Oluwole Oke, Sanya Omirin, and Taofeek Ajilesoro.

The five federal lawmakers were formally received into the APC in Osogbo, where the party also endorsed Tinubu for a second term in 2027.

‘A Strategic, Collective Decision’
Speaking with journalists, Fadahunsi described the move as deliberate and widely consulted.

“After long reflection, we have made the decision to leave the PDP and officially join APC. This is not a whimsical decision.

It is a collective move by our political family in Osun State,” he said.

According to him, Osun East had long been a stronghold of the PDP, contributing significantly to its electoral success.

However, he said the district’s interests were often overlooked, prompting the need to seek a platform that guarantees fair representation and partnership.

Citing Federal Projects in Osun East
Fadahunsi listed several projects he said influenced the decision, including the dualisation of the Akure-Ilesa-Ife-Ibadan Expressway, restoration of water supply, over 700 kilometres of rural roads, and the establishment of key health institutions such as the Orthopedic Hospital in Obokun, the School of Nursing in Ijebu-Jesa, and the Federal Medical Centre in Ilesa.

He also referenced the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture, Iragbiji, and the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun, as well as the provision of advanced medical equipment to hospitals across the state.

“These interventions attest to President Tinubu’s commitment and value for human lives,” he said.

‘Visionary Partnership’
The senator described his alignment with the APC as embracing a “visionary partnership,” praising Tinubu’s reform agenda and commitment to long-term development.

“Transformation must be bold and disruptive. Roads, railways, and airlines must stretch out from the heart of the West. Osun’s promise—its security, schools, hospitals, and communities—must be reinforced,” he stated.

He also lauded the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, aimed at empowering millions of Nigerians across electoral wards nationwide.

Fadahunsi reaffirmed his unequivocal endorsement of Tinubu for a second term in 2027, citing what he described as improvements in infrastructure, economic policies, food prices, and national security.

The defection marks a significant political realignment in Osun State, strengthening the APC’s position ahead of the next electoral cycle.
