FG Convenes National Economic Council Conference to Drive Inclusive Growth Across States

The Federal Government will on Monday host a two-day National Economic Council (NEC) Conference in Abuja as part of efforts to deepen economic coordination and accelerate inclusive growth across Nigeria’s 36 states.
The conference, scheduled for February 9 and 10, 2026, will take place at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, with Vice President Kashim Shettima presiding in his capacity as Chairman of the National Economic Council.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President.
State governors, top federal officials and key national stakeholders are expected at the summit, which is being convened by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.
Organisers said the conference is designed to provide a strategic platform for federal and state governments to align development priorities and strengthen collaboration around Nigeria’s long-term economic vision under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The theme of the conference is “Delivering Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development: The Renewed Hope National Development Plan.”
According to officials, the meeting is expected to generate policy directions that will guide states as they synchronise their programmes with the Federal Government’s national development framework.
Speaking ahead of the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning and Secretary of the NEC, Dr. Deborah Oko Odo, said discussions would focus on critical macroeconomic issues.
“The conference will focus on national economic priorities aimed at encouraging growth and development across the country,” she said.
She added that deliberations would centre on fiscal coordination, investment mobilisation, and shared development strategies between the Federal Government and state governments, with the goal of improving policy coherence and accelerating development outcomes nationwide.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to attend the conference as Special Guest of Honour, alongside development partners and private-sector leaders, as the administration continues to advance economic reforms and partnerships for sustainable national growth under the Renewed Hope framework.
