Kano Govt Approves Free Healthcare for 20,000 Orphans, Senior Citizens

The Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved a free healthcare programme targeting 20,000 orphans and senior citizens across the state as part of efforts to strengthen social protection for vulnerable groups.

The initiative will be implemented by the Kano State Social Protection Agency (KASPA) in line with its mandate to provide social care and protection services to the poor and most vulnerable members of society.

The Director-General of KASPA, Dr. Fateema Abubakar Abdullahi (Amneef), disclosed this during a roundtable discussion with directors of the agency at its headquarters in Kano.

According to her, the programme is aligned with the social protection agenda of the Yusuf administration, which is focused on easing hardship and improving access to essential services for vulnerable populations.

She explained that the free healthcare intervention will specifically cater to orphans and senior citizens, ensuring they receive timely medical attention without financial constraints.

In a statement signed by the Director of Public Enlightenment of the agency, Rabiu Khalil Kura, Abdullahi noted that application forms for enrolment into the programme would soon be made available to eligible beneficiaries.

She added that possession of a valid National Identification Number (NIN) would be a key requirement for participation in the scheme.

The KASPA boss further revealed that with the continued support of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the agency plans to roll out additional programmes aimed at reducing poverty, improving livelihoods and enhancing the economic well-being of poor and vulnerable households across Kano State.

She also appealed to non-governmental organisations, development partners and well-meaning individuals to collaborate with the agency in supporting vulnerable groups, especially as the Ramadan period approaches.
