Owa Ajero of Ijero Ekiti visits Nigeria’s High Commission in Ghana, commends efforts to protect Nigerian citizens and foster community ties
Owa Ajero of Ijero Ekiti, His Royal Majesty Oba Joseph Adebayo Adewole, paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian High Commission in Accra, Ghana, on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, expressing strong support for the mission’s ongoing efforts in safeguarding Nigerians residing in the country.

The revered monarch applauded Ambassador Ifedayo Adeoye, Nigeria’s Acting High Commissioner to Ghana, for his steadfast work in promoting the welfare and interests of Nigerian citizens abroad.
The visit was not only symbolic but also served to reinforce traditional ties and diplomatic goodwill.
In his welcome remarks, Ambassador Adeoye described Oba Adewole as a true custodian of Yoruba culture, commending his humility, inclusive leadership, and democratic values.
“Kabiyesi’s visit is a reflection of the strong cultural bond that binds our people together across borders,” the diplomat noted.
The Acting High Commissioner also spoke on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proactive steps to ease the challenges facing Nigerians in Ghana.
Among these strides is the ongoing policy to reduce Ghana’s mandatory startup capital requirement for foreign businesses from $1 million to $300,000.
He extended gratitude to the Ghanaian government for improving resident permit processes and for fostering better diplomatic engagement with the Nigerian community.
Ambassador Adeoye raised concern over the rising trend of illegal migration and job scams targeting Nigerian youths.
He revealed that the mission had successfully repatriated over 800 stranded Nigerians, victims of fraudulent employment schemes.
“Through coordinated efforts, we’ve rescued and returned these citizens safely, and are continuing to raise awareness to prevent further exploitation,” he said.
The meeting also touched on sensitive community issues, including the Eze Ndigbo title dispute, which the Commission has helped de-escalate.
Ambassador Adeoye reiterated that law-abiding Nigerians will not be deported, though legal measures will be taken against offenders.
The Owa Ajero’s visit was graced by several notable members of the Nigerian community in Ghana, including Otunba Femi Davies, Rev. Alabi, Mrs. Ajetunmobi, Evangelist Akinbami Samuel, Wale Onifade, and gospel artist Michael Adjovi.
The event was facilitated by renowned broadcaster Omobola Precious Akangbe (Mo’Precious Omo Naija).
Ambassador Adeoye concluded the visit by emphasizing the mission’s dedication to fostering peace, security, and innovation-driven development among the Nigerian diaspora in Ghana.

“The Nigerian community here remains a key link in strengthening bilateral ties between both nations,” he affirmed.
