At a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, August 19, ahead of the 2026 Area Council elections, ZLP leaders expressed confidence in the party’s capacity to mobilise across Nigeria’s 36 states and the FCT.

Hon. Swani Buba, ZLP Chairman and chairmanship candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), said the party’s unity is its biggest strength.
“I can tell you that crises in other parties are an added advantage to us because many of them who are already aggrieved with APC and other parties are about to decamp to our dear party. And it is not because we have the money, it is because we are a party with the best party ideology,” Buba declared.

He urged supporters to obtain their voter cards as a way of sending a strong message during the elections, stressing that unity and purpose would give ZLP the edge to win from local councils to the presidential level.
ZLP Vice-Chairman candidate for AMAC, Hon. Nonso Okeke, also emphasised the need for transformative leadership in the FCT.
“We are not only coming to participate, or to fill the gap, we make bold to say that it is time to change the narrative. Crises in other parties are as a result of bad leadership,” Okeke noted.
He accused the ruling APC of failing Nigerians in the past two years, citing skyrocketing food prices, unaffordable education and healthcare, insecurity, kidnappings, and worsening unemployment.
Okeke further celebrated what he described as an early win for the ZLP, pointing to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) publishing the names of all its candidates for the 2026 Area Council elections as the “first step victory.”
