Ogun Court Grants Extended Protection in Gbenga Daniel case, safeguarding properties and urging mediation amid heated political feud

Justice O.S. Oloyede, presiding over case HCS/373/2025, issued the ruling on Tuesday, extending interim orders that secure Daniel’s properties from government action.

The judge also instructed all parties to maintain the status quo and strongly advised mediation as a path to resolution.

Daniel’s legal team, led by Barrister Yinka Kotoye, SAN, secured the extension, describing it as vital to ensuring fairness.

Kotoye argued that the government must first withdraw all contravention and quit notices served on Daniel before any other discussions could take place.

He stressed that his right to consult with his client was fundamental to due process.

A key flashpoint came when the state’s legal team, led by Solicitor-General R.B. Kadiri, requested that the claimants present documents.

Kotoye firmly resisted, and the court declined to compel such action at this stage. The state insisted their filings were only “housekeeping” with no hidden agenda.

The case has been adjourned until October 13, 2025, to allow space for mediation or further hearings.

This legal battle is the latest twist in an intensifying political feud. On August 8, 2025, state agents stormed three Daniel-linked properties — Asoludero Court, Conference Hotels Limited, and its Annex — delivering quit notices and demolition threats.

Critics blasted the move as political persecution by Governor Dapo Abiodun, noting the properties predated the 2022 Urban and Regional Planning Law.

The conflict echoes a controversial 2023 midnight demolition of a plaza owned by Daniel’s wife, which sparked outrage and remains contested in court.

Many observers view the current showdown as a dangerous escalation of a personal vendetta masked as legal enforcement.

For now, the extended orders stand as a powerful legal win for Daniel, protecting his assets while mediation efforts are explored.
