Edo by-election results have validated the mandate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, according to Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo.

Speaking when he received the Member-elect for Ovia Federal Constituency, Hon. Gabriella Omosede Igbinedion, on a thank-you visit led by Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa, the governor said the by-election outcome proved that the APC’s victory in the September 21, 2024 governorship election was genuine.

Okpebholo noted that critics had accused his party of stealing the mandate, but the recent results showed otherwise. “I waited for this election to really know if we actually stole their mandate.
See the results from Edo Central by-election — APC won 51 wards out of 51 wards. This shows that the people gave their mandate to APC. No mandate was stolen,” he declared.

He further pointed out that PDP candidates in both past and present elections lost in their own wards and units, stressing that the people had never voted for them.
“This by-election is a reflection that Edo is APC. Edo people have spoken, and they love President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Our promise of securing 2.5 million votes is a task that must be accomplished,” the governor added.
Deputy Governor Idahosa, while introducing Hon. Igbinedion as his successor, commended the governor for his leadership and the people of Ovia for their support.
In her remarks, Hon. Igbinedion expressed gratitude to the governor and the people of Ovia, assuring them of effective representation.
“I am not new to the National Assembly, and I will bring my experience to bear on projects that will benefit my people.
The Ovia people recognized your hard work and the development you have brought to the state. I will not let them down,” she promised.
