Lagos State lawmaker Temitope Adewale projects Nigeria will reach 100% literacy by 2031 thanks to President Tinubu’s education policies, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and state skills programs
Nigeria is poised to achieve full national literacy by 2031 if current education policies under President Bola Tinubu continue, according to Hon. Temitope Adedeji Adewale, a Lagos State lawmaker.

Adewale, representing Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, made the optimistic forecast after inspecting a screening exercise for distributing free GCE forms to residents.

Highlighting the federal government’s commitment to youth empowerment through education, Adewale praised the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a key catalyst.
Launched by the Tinubu administration, NELFUND had recorded over 500,000 student loan applications by April 2025 from those seeking tertiary admission nationwide.

“You see, Mr. President is doing everything possible to boost the literacy level in the country,” Adewale said.
He added, “Given the way the government is going, by the end of President Tinubu’s second term in 2031, Nigeria will be boasting a 100 percent literacy rate, including resolving the issue of out-of-school children.”
The lawmaker also applauded state-level efforts complementing federal initiatives. He cited Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s attendance at the graduation of 5,300 beneficiaries of the Lagos Skills Acquisition Programmes, saying,
“This means 5,300 residents are off the labour market.”
Under the Adewale Temitope Educational Initiatives (ATA-EI), 400 free GCE forms and JAMB forms are being distributed this year.
Since inception, ATA-EI has provided over 8,000 free forms, with at least 120 students currently on scholarships in tertiary institutions.
“This programme is part of my promise to ensure no student misses an opportunity because of financial constraints.
Our goal remains to make Ifako-Ijaiye the most educated local government in Nigeria by 2031,” Adewale affirmed.
