Osun APC PDP court dispute escalates as APC dismisses PDP’s global petition over alleged disobedience of court ruling on local government allocations
Osun APC PDP court dispute intensified on Monday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the state PDP’s petition to the international community, calling it a “waste of time” and a deliberate misinformation campaign.

In a strongly worded statement, Kola Olabisi, Director of Media and Information for the Osun APC, accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of misleading global human rights organisations and diplomatic entities over an alleged refusal to obey a Court of Appeal ruling on local government allocations.

The PDP had alleged that two federal ministers Lateef Fagbemi, Attorney General of the Federation, and Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy were involved in withholding funds meant for local councils in Osun State, describing it as a plot to undermine the elected PDP local government officials.
However, APC countered, stating the Court of Appeal’s February 10, 2025 ruling reaffirmed the legitimacy of APC-elected local government chairmen and councillors. It maintained that no allocations were being withheld and accused PDP of playing to the gallery.

“The true owners of the funds are already in the process of collecting their allocations,” APC asserted. “No one is violating any court order.”
Challenging PDP’s legal strategy, the APC questioned why the opposition party had withdrawn its case from the Supreme Court if it truly believed in its claims.
The party also referenced the Supreme Court’s stance on unconditional local government autonomy, asserting that PDP’s actions amount to interference. “They are behaving like meddlesome interlopers,” the statement read.
In a powerful accusation, APC claimed that the Osun State government is indebted to the tune of N84 billion, alleging misappropriation of funds originally allocated to local governments.
“It’s clear the PDP prefers drama over due process,” APC stated. “If they believe court orders have been disobeyed, the proper channel is to file contempt proceedings, not to flood NGOs with irrelevant petitions.”
