The event took place at the NDLEA National Headquarters in Abuja on July 29, 2025.

The auction, conducted with full transparency, is part of the agency’s strategy to strip drug traffickers of illicit wealth while reinforcing the deterrent effect of asset forfeiture.
Two properties in Lagos were stepped down due to pending appeals, while six others across Lagos, Kano, Ondo, and Ogun went under the hammer.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), represented by Agency Secretary Shadrack Haruna, noted that the agency is not only focused on prosecution but also on depriving offenders of their financial incentives.
“This auction is part of our broader commitment to justice,” Haruna said. “When traffickers know they’ll lose everything, including property, the deterrent is stronger.”
The NDLEA Drug Proceeds Property Auction was praised by civil society. Umar Yakubu of the Centre for Transparency and Integrity Watch commended its fairness and international best practices.
Jerry Iorwa Aernan, NDLEA’s Director of Proceeds of Crime Management, confirmed auctioneers were vetted by the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).
