wike urges edo unity

Wike urges Edo unity, advises Governor Okpebholo to abandon Obaseki probe and prioritise development, while apologising to Oshiomhole for past political rifts

Wike urges Edo unity and calls on Governor Monday Okpebholo to set aside plans to investigate former Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Also read:

He made this appeal during a visit to Benin, stressing that development should be the priority.

“If there is someone who would have encouraged Okpebholo to probe and prosecute Obaseki, that person should be me,” Wike said, reflecting on past grievances. “But what I suffered to ensure his second term is now in the past.”

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory said Edo’s energy and resources should be directed at public benefit, not political revenge.

Wike acknowledged his past conflicts with former Governor Adams Oshiomhole and offered a public apology.

“Leader, I know the sufferings you endured. I was part of it. I humiliated you,” he said. “I apologise. Leave it and let them carry their wahala and go.”

He added that true leadership lies in forgiveness and moving forward. “Focus on the development of Edo and you will see what you will achieve at the end of the day,” Wike urged.

Wike had arrived in Benin to commission the second phase of the Central Bus Terminal, but the event was cancelled due to the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
