Lagos urges homeowners in state estates who bought before 2019 to collect their property titles for proof of ownership and access to mortgage benefits

Property titles are now available for collection by homeowners in Lagos State housing estates who purchased their units on or before 2019, the state government has announced.

This effort, according to the Ministry of Housing, forms part of a broader initiative to encourage formal property titling and secure ownership rights across the state.

The announcement was made at a public enlightenment forum held at the Ayangburen Jubilee Housing Estate in Ikorodu, where Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Abdulhafis Toriola, addressed residents.

He urged allottees who are yet to obtain their Deed of Sub-Lease documents to present themselves for verification and collection.

“In line with the policy of the state government to encourage the titling of properties in the state, the Ministry of Housing has called on all the allottees of various state-owned housing estates who purchased home units on or before 2019 and are yet to collect their Deed of Sub-title document on their home units to apply,” said Toriola, represented by the Director of the Estate Department, Olukemi Fosudo.

The Deed of Sub-Lease is an official proof of ownership issued by the Lagos State Government, which can be used for business transactions, including mortgage applications and securing financial collaterals.

It is distinct from a Letter of Confirmation, which is given after allottees accept the government’s offer terms and fulfil the required payments.

The Ministry has also called on allottees who have completed payment but are yet to receive either the Letter of Confirmation or the Deed of Sub-Lease to visit the Department of Estates at the Ministry’s Alausa office for verification and document issuance.

Beyond title documentation, the state encouraged residents to take responsibility for the estates in which they reside by observing community rules and fostering harmony.

Toriola emphasised the government’s continuing commitment to expanding access to affordable, secure and sustainable housing in Lagos.

“Ownership must come with responsibility,” he said. “We urge all residents to support the vision of the state government by obeying regulations and living in peace.”
