Ganduje Kwankwaso APC Defection

APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, states that the party will welcome former Kano Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso if he chooses to defect, describing it as an act of political accommodation

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has publicly stated that the ruling party is prepared to welcome former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, should he decide to defect.

Ganduje made this declaration while speaking to journalists at the APC national headquarters in Abuja, following a visit from the Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata.

Ganduje characterized Kwankwaso’s current political situation as “a fish out of water, trying to find its way back into the waters,” suggesting that the APC is willing to offer him a political home.

He emphasized the party’s commitment to deepening and widening democracy in Nigeria, implying that accommodating Kwankwaso aligns with this vision.

“The APC is deepening and widening democracy in the country. Kwankwaso is a fish out of water, trying to find its way back into the waters,” Ganduje said.

“We cannot say we can’t accommodate him, because a friend in need is a friend indeed. We don’t want to leave him completely abandoned. We can still have him in, if he wants to join us,” said Abdullahi Ganduje.

Ganduje further elaborated on the party’s stance, stating, “When you see your son running to where he would get shelter and you are a big brother in a big home, I think it is morally right to accommodate him. So, we cannot say we cannot accommodate him.”

Yusuf Ata, a former Kano House of Assembly speaker, who visited Ganduje to express his support for President Bola Tinubu, also commented on the political dynamics in Kano State.

He asserted that the “Kwankwasiyya red cap era” is fading and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering Kano State for the APC in the 2027 elections.

While Ata expressed his personal reservations about Kwankwaso rejoining the APC, he acknowledged that he would defer to the national chairman’s decision.

“For me, I will not want the former Kano state governor to be welcomed into the APC fold. But I have no choice if our national chairman decides to have him on board,” Ata said.
