The Federal Government has inaugurated a cutting-edge electronic gate (E-gate) at the departure wing of the Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, signaling a major upgrade in Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure.
The unveiling ceremony, held on Friday, was presided over by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, alongside Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
In a post shared on his X account, Keyamo explained that the E-gate is designed to enhance passenger comfort and improve airport security, reflecting the government’s commitment to modernizing aviation facilities.
Funded by the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with FAAN, the E-gate project is expected to streamline passenger facilitation and bolster security protocols at the airport.
The event also featured the unveiling of four Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered airport transit buses. These environmentally friendly buses, equipped with features for persons with disabilities, are part of Nigeria’s efforts to cut carbon emissions and adhere to global climate targets.
“These developments showcase our dedication to improving the passenger experience and aligning Nigeria’s aviation sector with international standards,” said Keyamo.
He emphasized the significance of partnerships in driving growth and delivering world-class infrastructure.
