Minister Festus Keyamo introduces a special marshal team to conduct unscheduled airport visits, aiming to improve staff professionalism and hygiene.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has unveiled plans to set up a team of special marshals to conduct unscheduled visits to airports across Nigeria.
The initiative, designed to evaluate staff professionalism and the overall hygiene of the airports, aims to improve service delivery and meet passenger expectations.

Keyamo’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood, outlined the details of the new initiative on Thursday.
The special marshals, a team consisting of volunteers from the media, non-governmental organisations, state governors’ representatives, and other stakeholders, will monitor airport operations and assess cleanliness standards.
“This initiative aims to ensure that our airports adhere to the highest standards of customer service and operational excellence,” the statement read.
“By introducing voluntary Special Airport Marshals, the minister intends to create an additional layer of transparency and supervision at our airports.”
The special marshals will conduct unannounced visits to airports, where they will assess the conduct of staff and the overall conditions of airport facilities.
Their findings will be reported directly to Keyamo, who will then provide directives to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) based on their observations.
The initiative seeks to complement official reports from airport managers by incorporating independent evaluations. This, according to Moshood, will help ensure accountability and transparency in airport management.
Keyamo also announced that he, along with senior aviation officials and federal legislators, would conduct unscheduled monthly inspections of airports across the country.
During these visits, the minister will engage with airport staff, address their concerns, and encourage them to maintain high levels of professionalism.
“The Honourable Minister will personally participate in various operational activities, demonstrating leadership and emphasising the importance of diligent service,” Moshood added.
This new initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance Nigeria’s airport standards and improve the overall experience for both staff and passengers.
