Scheming for the control of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by various camps ahead of 2023 general elections has worsened the crisis rocking the ruling party,
Two top chieftains of the party yesterday claimed to be its acting chairman following the suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
The chieftains represent two key camps of the party who are out to grab the leadership position. The upholding of the suspension of Oshiomhole by the Court of Appeal had created a vacuum in the leadership of the party.
To fill the vacuum, the National Working Committee (NWC) had named a previous representative Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi as the acting national executive of the gathering. In any case, at the gathering’s secretariat around 10:00 am yesterday, the Deputy National Secretary of the gathering, Chief Victor Giadom proclaimed himself as the acting administrator of the gathering, puncturing the declaration by the NWC of the gathering.
While Ajimobi’s camp has the support of the national chief of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Giadom, party sources said is of the camp of some serving and previous governors. The camp is labeled ‘Amaechi/El-Rufai camp.’
Notwithstanding, a few sources in Progressives Governor’s Forum showed that there were moves to bring back Obaseki to the gathering taking into account the new turns of events.
