Police deny placing N30m bounty on Evans

A few days after the arrest of the Nigerian billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudi Dumeme Onuamadike, aka Evans, Nigerians were beginning to wonder who would collect the N30 million bounty placed him.
It was, however, shocking, when the Nigeria Police Force, feigned ignorance of such placement of bounty on Evans.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, before the arrest of Evans, while addressing journalists, said that the police had placed N30 million bounty on Evans. According to Owoseni, the bounty placement was done on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.
Attempts made to find out who would collect the bounty had been met with hostility.
Before Evans arrest, Owoseni said: “Whoever blows the whistle that will lead to his arrest will get an N30m reward, as stated by the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.”
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Jimohm Moshood, said: “Where did you hear that? I’m not aware of that announcement. You need to find out which IG did that? I’m not aware; it’s not to my knowledge.”
The denial came on the heels of debates on social media, saying that police wouldn’t honour such N30 million bounty placement.
