Kiriji/Yoruba Unity Day 2017: Special Summit On Yoruba Unity (Communique)

The Kiriji/Yoruba Unity Day 2017 was held at Imesi Ile on the September 23, 2017 and the following communique was released.

  1. The Summit acknowledged the role of past historians and scholars to revive Yoruba Nationalism as from 23rd September 1986 when the centenary celeberations took place here at Imesi-Ile to this day.
  2. The Summit resolves and enjoins all Yoruba people to revisit the 12 Articles of the Pan Yoruba Peace Treaty of 1886 as a road Map to rebuild Nationalism in Yorubaland.
  3. The Summit resolves further to charge all Yorubas in general to see the Pan Yoruba Peace Site at Imesi-Ile as our common heritage worthy of admiration development and promotion by all and sundry.
  4. The Summit further charge all the people of Imesi-Ile, the Towns unions, Schools, institutions and Societies to continue to preserve and see the Yoruba Peace Treaty heritage as a blessing to the people of the town which should be jealously guarded promoted and developed as a veritable means of societal development and progress.
    5.The Summit reiterate that the Unity of all the Yoruba is paramount to the economical political and social development of Yoruba Nation and therefore charge Yoruba political leaders and the elite to cooperate and work in unison regardless of party affiliation and religious differences.
  5. This summit resolve and recommend to all that the Summit should become an annual event henceforth to be rotated round all the zones within Yorubaland.
  6. The Summit support earlier position of the Yoruba Elders Conference at Ibadan made on the 7th September 2017 at Adamasingba Stadium Ibadan on Yorubas stand on the restructuring of Nigeria.
    8.The Summit resolves to promote the teaching of Yoruba language and culture in our school from the primary to tertiary institutions and in all departments as a means of sensitising the populace on the imperatives of unity and oneness among Yorubas.
  7. The Summit calls on the government of Osun and other States of the Southwest and the Kiriji Cultural Foundation to as a matter of necessity turn the Yoruba Peace Treaty site to an Eco-Culture Tourism site for economic development of the State and the Yoruba nation as a whole.
    10 .While the Summit recommends that the annual Kiriji War Celebration and the Summit on Yoruba Unity Day should be extended to different Yoruba towns, provided that the final day of every 23rd of September each year should continue to be observed in Imesi-Ile.
    11.The Summit resolved and encourage Kiriji Cultural Foundation to have a website for the purpose of information dissemination about their programmes and activities round the year on the Kiriji War site for greater awareness and enlightenment.
  8. The Summit note with appreciation the role of all social cultural groups involved in providing security and prevention of human and ecological hazards in and around the Yoruba Peace Treaty Groove and the Kiriji War Battlefield.
