Nollywood actor Zubby Michael has taken a decisive step into Nigeria’s political space, officially registering as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The popular film star, whose real name is Azubuike Michael, completed his registration on Saturday in his hometown of Ozubulu, Anambra State, signaling a shift from online commentary to active political involvement.
Zubby Michael confirmed the development via his Instagram page, where he posted a video capturing the registration process and the moment he received his ADC membership card. In his caption, he wrote, “I dey my village, enough of the talking online, I don involve,” suggesting a move from rhetoric to action.
In the background of the video, a voice—believed to be the host—hinted at possible political ambitions for the actor. Speaking in Igbo, the host suggested a preference for a “hot-blooded” candidate to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives, subtly pointing toward Zubby Michael as a potential contender.
Despite the speculation, the actor has not publicly declared any intention to run for elective office.
His entry into the ADC comes at a time when the party is witnessing a significant rise in membership. According to a statement shared on April 5 by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, registrations have surged dramatically—from over 40,000 members recorded on April 2 to more than 500,000 new members within days.
The spike follows a recent decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the ADC’s leadership structure, a move that appears to have renewed interest in the party nationwide.
Zubby Michael’s political move adds to a growing list of Nigerian entertainers stepping into the political arena, blurring the lines between celebrity influence and public service.
