Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen attacked Alima village, a suburb of Kadarko, on the night of August 19, leaving one farmer, Samuel Shaapera, dead.

Eyewitnesses said the heavily armed assailants sacked the community, displacing more than 500 Tiv farmers.
“Fulanis with sophisticated guns and machetes attacked the village and killed Mr. Shaapera. They chased out the people, who fled for their lives,” said a resident who identified himself simply as Apiir.

The fresh violence occurred just 20 kilometers west of Yelwata, Benue State, where over 200 people were massacred by armed bandits a few months earlier.
Philip Nong’o, President of the Nasarawa State chapter of Mdzough U Tiv, described the worsening situation as dire, accusing the attackers of controlling large areas of farmland.
“In fact, Kadarko, Kwara in Keana LGA, and Doka district in Doma LGA have become safe havens for bandits and kidnappers.
My people are denied access to their villages and farms, as they are kidnapped or killed if they try to return,” he told our correspondent.
Nong’o called on government authorities to urgently step in:
“I am calling on security operatives to redouble their efforts, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of this massive existential violence, and return my people to their villages.”
He further appealed for government support to help displaced Tiv farmers rebuild their lives, stressing the need for long-term protection of lives and property.
