Super Falcons allowance payment has finally been approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, offering a much-needed morale boost ahead of their WAFCON 2024 final clash against Morocco.

According to a statement released by the President’s Media Center via X, Tinubu has sanctioned the disbursement of ₦12 billion to clear all outstanding debts to Nigeria’s national sports teams.

This includes 15 months of unpaid coach salaries, player match bonuses, and various entitlements owed to teams such as the Super Falcons, Super Eagles, and the Under-20 national team.
“President has approved the payment of ₦12 billion outstanding backlog for Nigeria’s national teams,” the statement read. “This includes allowances, bonuses, and coaches’ salaries.”

The statement emphasized that all financial obligations, up to and including the July 26 final, have been fully settled and disbursed for immediate payment.

Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, confirmed that this new approach marks a shift towards timely compensation, ensuring that players and staff are rewarded without drama or delays.
This decisive action also benefits D’Tigress, Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, who are gearing up for their 2025 FIBA Women AfroBasket campaign in Côte d’Ivoire.

The announcement comes as Nigeria prepares for a high-stakes WAFCON final against host nation Morocco a potential repeat of their 2022 semifinal meeting, where the Falcons narrowly lost on penalties.
