Following claims that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may embark on another industrial action, the union has come out to refute the claims.

Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU president in an interview with Tribune Online on Sunday, March 21, explained that the union has not issued a notice for any industrial action for now.

According to him, he wasn’t aware of any plan to embark on a fresh strike. He also stressed that ASUU has been in talks with the federal government concerning outstanding issues arising from the last strike. The ASUU president people are free to express their frustration fine, there is no need for muscle-flexing.

Ogunyemi’s reaction is coming almost a week after the chairman of ASUU in the University of Ibadan, Prof. Ayo Akinwole, said victimization of members and non-payment of salaries may prompt a fresh industrial action.

He alleged that since the union suspended the strike on December 24, 2020, many lecturers were still being owed salaries of between two and 10 months.

Akinwole accused the federal government of violating its promise not to victimise lecturers.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) revealed the implication of the union going on with their industrial action for too long
