Sevilla football club has beaten Real Betis in the Seville derby after the return La Liga
Football returned to Spain for the first time since March 10 and indeed to Seville on Thursday night, albeit in an awkward fashion.
Although not allowed into the Stadium, some groups of fans from both teams gathered outside the stadium just before the game, ignoring guidance, while the TV presentation was somewhat weird.
La Liga became the second of Europe’s top five leagues to restart play, and the Premier League is due to follow suit next week.
After a minute’s silence was held in honour of those have lost their lives to the corona virus, Sevilla and Real Betis got the ball rolling again, with Sevilla running out 2-0 winners. The hosts opened the scoring as Ocampos beat Betis’ goalkeeper from the penalty spot, having also hit the cross bar with a shot in the first half.
Ocampos was again involved in the second goal, providing the assist with a clever backheel pass which Fernando tucked in to seal the win. The game finishing a few minutes after midnight local time.
The game featured virtual support and simulated crowd noise, with the empty stands painted with images of what looked like supporters wearing the clubs colours.
