The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has charged corps members to respect local customs, remain disciplined and punctual at their places of primary assignment, and play active roles in Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
Nafiu gave the advice while addressing 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream One corps members at the NYSC orientation camps in Ogun and Oyo states, according to a post on the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters’ X handle on Saturday.

Commending the corps members for answering the call to national service, the NYSC boss urged them to be resourceful and manage their finances prudently, stressing that wise financial planning would sustain them during and beyond the service year.
“When you are posted to your place of primary assignment, respect their rules, be punctual, be resourceful and learn the culture of the organisation you are posted to,” Nafiu said.

He also cautioned corps members to uphold good conduct and respect the traditions of their host communities throughout their service period.
Earlier, the Ogun State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Olayinka Nasamu, informed the Director-General that a total of 3,341 corps members were registered at the camp, including 975 initially deployed to Lagos State. She noted that the corps members had conducted themselves responsibly and adapted well to the regimented camp life, adding that camp officials were discharging their duties with a high level of professionalism and teamwork.
In Oyo State, the NYSC Coordinator, Mr Kayode Ola-Peters, disclosed that 3,068 corps members had been registered, describing their conduct as commendable. He said the corps members had participated actively in camp activities and shown readiness to contribute to national development across various sectors.
The NYSC had earlier announced that the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I orientation course commenced nationwide on Wednesday, January 21, across all 37 orientation camps in the country.
According to the scheme, registration for corps members began on January 21 and ended at midnight on Friday, January 23, 2026. The swearing-in ceremony was held on Friday, January 23, while the orientation exercise is expected to conclude with a closing ceremony on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
