The Popular Ama-Hausa, where the Northerners in Owerri live and do their businesses, has been relocated to Naze, a more comfortable and secure location, on Sunday afternoon.
In an email sent to US, on Sunday evening, by Sam Onwuemeodo, a Media Aide to the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, he stated that the residents have moved to Naze, as their permanent site and they have begun to move with joy.
The Media Aide quoted Sarki Hausawa in Imo State, Alhaji Baba Suleman, and the Governor’s Special Assistant, Northern Affairs Hon. Faisal Lawal, saying:
“This is the continuation of the exercise on the urban renewal, which we started at Douglas Road yesterday (Saturday). Today, we are continuing with the Hausa trading area popularly known as Ama-Hausa. I can tell you the people are happy. The Hausa people are happy, because they have seen that nobody is being favoured”.
“We were not taken unwareness in this exercise, because earlier before now, we have been informed that such exercise would be done. It is not being done because the government hates us, but because the government has a reason for relocating us. And we are not complaining, because the new place is more befitting than where we are now. The Governor loves us and we appreciate that”.
Lawal said: “The Hausa Community is aware that this exercise is taking place today. So, there is no problem, we are peaceful. Nobody’s property is being destroyed, and there will never be any form of disturbance from this Community”.
