The crescent moon signaling the start of Ramadan 1447 has been sighted in Saudi Arabia, marking the commencement of the holy month for millions of Muslims worldwide.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is regarded as the holiest month in Islam, observed through fasting, prayer, and acts of charity.
Saudi-based media platform Haramain announced on Tuesday that the moon had been sighted, confirming that fasting would begin at sunset.

“The crescent moon has been sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Ramadhan 1447 will begin tonight,” the platform stated, offering prayers for acceptance of worship during the sacred month.
The official Saudi Press Agency also confirmed on X that Wednesday, February 18, 2026, would be observed as the first day of Ramadan.

Gulf nations including Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates issued similar announcements following their own moon sightings.
In Nigeria, Muslims are expected to await an official declaration from the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, regarding the commencement of Ramadan in the country.
Ramadan is a period of spiritual reflection, increased devotion, and community solidarity for Muslims across the globe.
