Governor Bello Mohammed Matawlle has directed Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Bala Bello Maru to release the sum of N2 million as a reward to anybody who can give useful information about those responsible for the desecration of Holy Qur’an in the state.
The governor disclosed this while receiving report from a 14 man committee constituted by his administration.
According to him, the issue of Qur’an desecration cannot be treated with a mere wave of the hand, stressing that he was sending a red signal to those responsible for the unholy act.
“My government cannot tolerate such activity from such irresponsible elements in the state,” he lamented.
It could be recalled that a former chairman of Gusau Local Government council, Hon. Ibrahim Tanko and his councillor, Alhaji Dan Galadima were accused of desecration of the Qur’an and were arrested.
However, the two chairmen were freed by a Shariah court in Gusau, the state capital during the tenure of Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari.
But when Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle took over governance, he revoked the case and rearrested the former chairman and his councillor.
Our correspondent can authoritatively report that the two people were returned to the prison without bail pending the determination of the case.
