The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State, Bitrus Obidah, has brushed aside concerns over recent defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that the party remains solid and poised for continued dominance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking with journalists on Monday in Jalingo, Obidah expressed confidence in the PDP’s strength, unity, and enduring political relevance across the state.
He dismissed speculations of internal crisis within the party, stressing that the PDP in Taraba operates under a single, duly elected leadership whose mandate remains intact.

According to him, the party has maintained a formidable presence since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999, supported by well-established structures spanning all 16 local government areas of the state.
Addressing the wave of defections, Obidah revealed that some former PDP members who switched allegiance to the APC are already reconsidering their move and exploring a return to the party.

He noted that the PDP remains open to welcoming back returnees willing to contribute to strengthening its grassroots support.
Obidah also assured party faithful of a transparent and fair candidate selection process in future elections. He emphasized that aspirants would be encouraged to build genuine grassroots backing rather than rely on imposed candidacies.
He further disclosed that reconciliation efforts are ongoing at the national level of the party to address internal disputes and foster unity across its chapters.
Expressing optimism, the PDP chairman said the party would emerge stronger from the reconciliation process and remain well-positioned for the political battles leading up to the 2027 general elections.
