PDP Rebuild Gains Momentum as Akpoti-Uduaghan Pushes Unity at Convention

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to set aside personal interests and focus on rebuilding the party’s structure as it prepares for future elections.

Her appeal followed the successful adoption of a key motion she presented at the party’s 2026 National Convention held in Abuja. The convention, organised by a faction led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ratified ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses conducted across the country.

According to her media office, delegates unanimously endorsed the motion, paving the way for the validation of party structures in affected states and reinforcing ongoing internal reorganisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking while presenting the motion, Akpoti-Uduaghan stressed the importance of unity, legality, and institutional stability, describing the ratification as a critical step toward strengthening the PDP’s democratic foundation.

“Today’s decision is not merely procedural; it is a reaffirmation of our collective commitment to internal democracy, party discipline, and respect for due process,” she said, adding that the party remains guided by rules, consultation, and the will of its members.

The motion sought formal approval for congresses conducted in several states in line with resolutions of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and recommendations of the National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC), as well as compliance with court rulings and the party’s constitution.

States where congresses were ratified include Abia, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Cross River, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, Ogun, Osun, Niger, Rivers, and the Federal Capital Territory.

The convention also approved fresh congresses in Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Ondo, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba, Yobe, and Zamfara.

Akpoti-Uduaghan urged party faithful to see the exercise as a vital move to strengthen grassroots participation and restore confidence within the PDP.

“Our strength as a political party lies in the credibility of our structures from the ward level upward. By ratifying these congresses, we are sending a clear message that the PDP is united, organised, and ready for the democratic responsibilities ahead,” she said.

Her remarks drew overwhelming support from delegates, marking a defining moment at the convention after months of consultations and reconciliation efforts.

In her closing remarks, the Kogi Central lawmaker called on members to prioritise collective interest over personal ambition.

“The task before us is bigger than any single individual. Together, we must rebuild trust, deepen inclusion, and position the PDP as the credible alternative Nigerians are looking toward,” she stated.

The ratification is expected to stabilise party leadership structures nationwide and strengthen the party’s readiness as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
