Gunmen suspected to be vandals have killed an official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC , identified simply as Agama at Idimu in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the incident happened at about 8pm on Saturday, January 27.

Agama who was a part of the NSCDC officials securing the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited pipeline in the community was heading home from work when a vehicle trailed and cornered him along Oladun Road.

In the process, some unidentified men were said to have stepped out of the car and fired shots at him.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that the gunmen ensured that the NSCDC official fell to the ground before leaving the scene.

The eyewitness who craved anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the incident said, “He was riding his motorcycle when a white Mercedez Benz suddenly blocked him. Some men stepped out of the car and shot him in the stomach. After carrying out the act, they started to shoot in the air to scare people away before later driving off.”

He said the incident caused panic in the area as passersby scampered for safety while business owners quickly closed their shops.

It was learnt that the colleagues of the victim were immediately alerted to the attack.

“Officials of the NSCDC later started to arrive at the scene after people discovered that the victim was one of their officials. When the senior one among them arrived, they quickly rushed him to the hospital where he was confirmed dead,” the eyewitness added.

A source in the community said the deceased was a committed official who guarded against the activities of vandals in the area.

The source said, “Agama had always opposed bunkering in the area. He does not compromise the ethics of his job as an NSCDC official. This is what people know him for.”

The state NSCDC spokesperson, DSC Abolurin Oluwaseun, could not be reached as calls made to his phone rang out. A text message sent to him had yet to be replied.

The Lagos State Police Command on Saturday, July 11, 2023, said its operatives foiled an attempt by pipeline vandals to scoop crude oil at the pipeline.

The spokesperson for the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement, said the incident happened around 2am when the hoodlums accessed the site to siphon the PMS into their tanker.

He added that the suspects took to their heels and abandoned their vehicle and equipment after sighting the men from the command.
