The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended 14 lawyers to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointment as judges of the Federal High Court (FHC).

The recommendation followed the completion of security screenings on the candidates, with no adverse reports recorded against any of them.
The NJC’s Deputy Director of Information, Mrs. Kemi Babalola-Ogedengbe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to her, the decision was taken at the Council’s 110th meeting held on January 13 and 14, presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
“At the time of the Council’s meeting, the security report on the candidates was not available,” the statement noted. “Council, therefore, resolved to await the submission of the security report before forwarding the names of the candidates to the President.”
Mrs. Babalola-Ogedengbe explained that upon receipt of the security report—now cleared of any negative findings—the Council, on January 22, 2026, formally transmitted the names to President Tinubu for consideration and appointment.
