Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, made the disclosure on Thursday during the commissioning of a 63MVA, 132/33kV mobile substation at the Eleyele Transmission Substation in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The project, executed under the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) by FGN Power Company in partnership with Siemens Energy, aims to modernise Nigeria’s power infrastructure and resolve long-standing transmission bottlenecks.
“Just yesterday, at the National Assembly, we approved an \$18.2 billion loan to ensure that we install what we call a super grid,” Adelabu announced.

“It’s not just about fixing the old system. This is an alternative grid—a backup grid, a fallover grid.”
Nigeria currently operates a single national grid. The minister stressed that the **Nigeria super power grid** would ensure improved electricity stability by offering alternative power routes in the event of grid failures.
He assured Nigerians of the administration’s commitment to delivering on the project, which is expected to overhaul the dilapidated power infrastructure and stimulate economic growth.
The newly commissioned mobile substation at Eleyele increases transmission capacity by 50.4MW, benefiting residents and businesses in Eleyele, Apete, Ologun-Eru, The Polytechnic Ibadan, Sango, and Bodija.
FGN Power Company Managing Director, Mr Kenny Anuwe, described the substation as a state-of-the-art solution to longstanding power transmission issues.
Francis Agoha, CEO of IBEDC, represented by Folasade Sanya, hailed the development as a major step forward in the national power agenda.
Traditional ruler Oba Dauda Omotosho, Alawotan of Awotan, commended the government and appealed to IBEDC for the provision of prepaid meters and regular electricity for the project’s beneficiaries.
