This contribution aims to significantly boost police patrol capabilities across the state, with a particular focus on major urban areas.

Governor Mohammed Bago announced this initiative during the passing out ceremony of 50 participants from the newly established Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 23 Minna.

The event took place at the Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi premises in Minna, the state capital.

According to a statement released by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the newly procured vehicles will be allocated to the Niger State Police Command.

This will directly enhance their patrol capacity, especially in urban centers where security concerns are most pressing.

“The Niger State government has procured 25 additional vehicles to donate to the Nigeria Police Force, Niger State command, to boost patrols, especially in major towns of the State,” Ibrahim quoted Governor Bago as saying.

Governor Bago also revealed that the state government is collaborating with the police to construct barracks on the outskirts of Minna. This initiative aims to further improve security coverage across all parts of the state capital.

“The Niger State government has procured 25 additional vehicles to donate to the Nigeria Police Force, Niger State command, to boost patrols, especially in major towns of the State,” Governor Mohammed Bago said.

He reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to supporting the police and other security agencies in their efforts to tackle the menace of insecurity within the state.

“My administration will continue to support the Nigeria Police and other security agencies as we work ambitiously to address the menace of insecurity in the state,” he stated.

The passing out ceremony also marked the graduation of the inaugural 50 members of the SPU Base 23 Minna.

This newly formed unit is specifically designed to address the increasing demand for the protection of high-profile individuals, including government officials and other elites.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, established the SPU to meet these specific security needs. CSP Hassan Sani, the unit’s commander at the Minna base, provided details about the unit’s mandate and comprehensive training program.

“The Special Protection Unit is designed to meet the increasing demand for elite protection services.

Over the past two weeks, these 50 participants underwent comprehensive training in VIP protection, convoy movement, firearms handling, martial arts, self-defence, first aid, and fire-fighting skills,” CSP Sani explained.

The establishment of this new specialized unit, coupled with the donation of the additional vehicles, is expected to significantly enhance the police’s capacity to provide round-the-clock protection for high-profile individuals and improve overall law enforcement coverage throughout Niger State.
