NDLEA intensifies drug crackdown, raiding Lagos hotel, airports and highways, arresting kingpin and seizing large quantities of narcotics nationwide
The NDLEA intensifies drug crackdown with a series of major busts across Nigeria last week, including arrests at a Lagos hotel, the interception of international consignments and capture of a long‑wanted kingpin.

Operatives intercepted a white Toyota Sienna van at Ilasamaja on the Apapa‑Oshodi Expressway. Inside were 7.6 kg of cocaine and 900 g of methamphetamine.

The driver, Achebe Kenneth Nnamdi, 51, was arrested, leading to a follow‑up raid in Isheri, Ojo, where they captured 60‑year‑old cartel leader Okpara Paul Chigozie—wanted since 2019.
Officers recovered an additional 1.8 kg of cocaine and 1.3 kg of methamphetamine at his hideout.

Meanwhile, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, authorities working with security agents intercepted 7,790 tramadol and rohypnol pills hidden by passenger Omoregie Uyiosa, bound for Italy.
Another shipment of 1.70 kg of skunk concealed inside Golden Morn cereal boxes was seized on 17 July, with cargo handler Chioba Robert Uchenna detained.
In Lagos, NDLEA raided Sarah Sam Hotels on Ogudu Road after receiving intelligence on distribution of party drugs.
Officers seized 1.3 kg of chocolate cannabis, 900 g of gummies and 22.9 g of skunk. Three individuals, including Obayemi Oyetade, were arrested.
At the same time, in Kaduna State, three suspects—Onyeka Madu, Monday Nwadishi and Emmanuel Madu—were arrested with 742.866 kg of skunk and Colorado cannabis.
In Kano, Lawan Rabiu was nabbed with 36,000 pills of tramadol on 16 July.
On 18 July in Gombe, Aliyu Abubakar was caught with 25,000 tramadol and Exol‑5 pills.
Also that day, Mohammed Adamu and Furaira Idris were arrested in Yemaltu Deba LGA with 29 kg of compressed skunk.
In Borno State, officers intercepted a Mercedes Benz on Baga Road containing 74,360 opioid pills. The driver, Audu Modu, 44, was arrested.
Bayelsa saw a bust on 17 July in Yenagoa, where 63‑year‑old Akuna Nelson was apprehended with 163 litres of skuchies.
That same day, in Kogi State, four suspects were arrested on the Okene‑Lokoja Highway with 2 kg of methamphetamine.
Finally, in Abia State on 14 July, NDLEA officers raided the home of notorious dealer Nduka Obi, 39, seizing various drugs—tramadol, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine—and N736,000 in cash.
