LP Lawmaker: Otti Won’t Oppose Tinubu’s 2027 Bid as Solar Project Lights Up Abia Community

A member of the House of Representatives, Ginger Onwusibe, has said Abia State Governor Alex Otti is unlikely to oppose President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid in 2027, citing the performance of both leaders.

Onwusibe made the remark on Sunday at Lohum Umuimenyi in Bende Local Government Area during the launch of “Project Switch On Bende,” a solar powered street lighting initiative facilitated by Chief Frank Chinasa, Abia State Chief Liaison Officer in Abuja.

Describing his position as personal, the Labour Party chieftain nonetheless expressed confidence that Otti has the political capacity to mobilise support for Tinubu in the state.

“I can tell you the governor will not oppose Mr President’s second-term bid, and he has the capacity to deliver Abia for him,” Onwusibe said.

The lawmaker, who highlighted his long political experience spanning multiple administrations in Abia, also praised Otti’s performance, asserting that the governor has outperformed his predecessors and заслужed re-election.

At the event, Onwusibe commended Chinasa for attracting the solar lighting project, which he said would significantly improve safety and economic activity in the area.

In his remarks, Chinasa said the initiative was designed to restore public trust in governance while enhancing security and community development. According to him, a total of 486 solar-powered streetlights have already been installed across Uzuakoli and Umuimenyi Ward within a short period.

“This project is about more than light; it is about restoring confidence in governance, improving security, and creating opportunities for our people,” he said.

Chinasa noted that the initiative was executed with support from the Niger Delta Development Commission under its “Operation Light Up the Niger Delta” programme, urging residents to safeguard the infrastructure.

The Mayor of Bende Local Government Area, Uwabunkeonye Bassey, and the chairman of the occasion, Johnson Chukwu, also lauded the project, describing it as impactful and people-oriented.

Chukwu, while distancing himself from partisan politics, praised Chinasa’s efforts, noting that leadership should be measured by its positive impact on people’s lives.

The event underscored the intersection of grassroots development and emerging political alignments, as conversations around the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum.
