The Labour Party has announced April 28 as the date for its presidential primary, alongside a detailed timetable for its ward, local government, and state congresses.
The schedule was disclosed in a formal notification to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), signed by the party’s Interim National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, and made available to journalists in Abuja.
According to Usman, the correspondence was in compliance with relevant legal provisions, including Section 82(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended), INEC regulations, and Sections 223(1) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which mandate political parties to notify the electoral body of key internal activities.

She explained that the updated timetable followed an earlier postponement aimed at ensuring broader participation among party members, particularly to allow for the completion of its ongoing digital membership registration exercise.
Under the new schedule, ward congresses will hold on April 23, followed by Local Government Area (LGA) congresses on April 24, and state congresses on April 25. The party’s national convention, where the presidential primary will take place, is slated for April 28 at the International Conference Centre.

Usman urged INEC to notify its state offices accordingly to facilitate effective monitoring of the congresses and convention, in line with its statutory responsibilities.
She reaffirmed the party’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process, assuring that all activities would be conducted in accordance with established laws and guidelines.
