INEC Publishes PDP NWC List, Signals Recognition Amid Party Leadership Crisis

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has updated its official website to include the names of newly recognised members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Among those listed are Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, alongside other members of the party’s national leadership.

Both officials emerged from the PDP National Convention held late Sunday in Abuja—a gathering that has since sparked controversy due to competing claims from rival factions within the party.

The publication of the list by INEC is being widely interpreted by political observers as a significant move that may signal the commission’s recognition of the leadership presented to it.

The development comes against the backdrop of lingering disputes over the legitimacy of the convention, with various party blocs contesting the outcome and some stakeholders reportedly exploring legal options to challenge the process.

With Nigeria inching closer to the next general elections, the PDP continues to grapple with internal tensions over its leadership structure, raising concerns about party cohesion and preparedness for the polls.
