Dr Shehu Wahab, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Nasarawa State, issued the stern warning during a stakeholders’ meeting held Thursday in Lafia.

The meeting was organized ahead of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, set to begin Monday, August 18, 2025.
Wahab expressed serious concern over the increasing trend of aspirants flooding the streets with campaign posters and billboards well before the official campaign period.

“This not only undermines the electoral process but sets a dangerous precedent that can erode standards of political conduct,” he said.
The INEC Nasarawa 2027 Elections advisory comes amid reports of a particular aspirant sponsoring radio jingles and advertisements, directly linking his ambition to the CVR campaign — an act Wahab condemned as misleading and unlawful.
The REC also clarified that mobilizing citizens for voter registration is solely the commission’s duty and warned politicians to refrain from politicizing the process.
Online pre-registration for CVR begins August 18, while in-person registration is scheduled to start August 25.
The registration exercise, Wahab said, is crucial to ensure all eligible Nigerians are captured, including those who recently turned 18, need to update their information, or have relocated.
Wahab urged stakeholders to help prevent underage or multiple registrations, stressing that violators would face sanctions.
3He also encouraged citizens to register early rather than wait until the deadline approaches.
Supporting the message, INEC’s Director of Operations in Nasarawa, Sale El-Mahmoud, stated that the exercise will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Mondays through Fridays, at INEC headquarters in Lafia and across all 13 LGAs in the state.
