Renowned Hollywood actor Eric Dane has died at the age of 53 following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurological disorder.
Dane, widely recognised for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan in Grey’s Anatomy and as Cal Jacobs in Euphoria, passed away on Thursday afternoon surrounded by his family.
His wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and their daughters, Billie and Georgia, were by his side. In a statement, the family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support, describing his children as the “center of his world.”

Over a career spanning more than three decades, Dane built a reputation for versatility and screen presence, appearing in productions such as Charmed, The Last Ship, Marley & Me, Valentine’s Day, and Burlesque.
Tributes have since poured in from colleagues and fans. Euphoria creator Sam Levinson described Dane as both a talented actor and a dear friend, while his Grey’s Anatomy co-star Kim Raver praised his playful spirit and sharp comedic timing.

ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, gradually leading to muscle weakness, paralysis, and breathing difficulties.
Dane had used his platform to raise awareness about the condition prior to his passing.
He leaves behind a legacy of memorable performances and a career defined by charisma, depth, and dedication to his craft.
