Gombe teenage flood tragedy unfolds as police discover a 15-year-old boy’s lifeless body in a gully after heavy rainfall in Hayin Kwarin Misau

Gombe teenage flood tragedy struck on Monday morning when the lifeless body of a teenage boy was found in a gully at Hayin Kwarin Misau Quarters following a night of intense rainfall.

The Gombe State Police Command confirmed the discovery and has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, officers received a distress call at about 6:30 am from the Officer-in-Charge of Hayin Kwari Misau outstation, alerting them to the presence of the boy’s body in a gully formed by erosion.

“Our officers responded immediately and visited the scene. The preliminary assessment showed no signs of violence or injury on the deceased,” Abdullahi said.

“We suspect he may have drowned due to the heavy downpour recorded the previous night.”

The tragic discovery has cast a shadow over the community, which has faced increased vulnerability due to worsening erosion and poor drainage infrastructure.

The boy, believed to be around 15 years old, was found without any form of identification.

Abdullahi stated that the body was evacuated to the Gombe Specialist Hospital, where a medical doctor officially confirmed the boy’s death.

Detectives on the scene documented the location through photographs and initiated further inquiries into the identity and background of the deceased.

He added, “We are doing everything possible to identify the deceased and trace his relatives.”

The Gombe teenage flood tragedy has underscored the dangers posed by extreme weather and inadequate erosion control.

Although the exact time and circumstances of the incident remain unclear, initial reports point towards the possibility of the victim being caught in the flood while trying to find shelter.

The police have urged members of the public with any useful information to come forward.

“We urge members of the public who may have any useful information to kindly come forward or report to the nearest police station,” the PPRO appealed.

The incident has also reignited calls for state and local authorities to improve infrastructure in flood-prone areas.

Residents of Hayin Kwarin Misau Quarters lamented the lack of proper drainage and the increasing risk to children and vulnerable individuals each rainy season.

One community elder remarked, “We have been asking the government to come and help us. This place is no longer safe during the rains. We are losing our children.”

As investigations continue, the Gombe State Police Command has assured the public that all efforts will be made to identify the deceased and reunite him with his family.

Officials are also monitoring the area for any further hazards that may threaten lives.

This incident follows several similar tragedies in recent times, drawing urgent attention to the need for better urban planning and disaster prevention mechanisms across the region.

As rainfall continues across Gombe and other parts of the country, both security and emergency services are on high alert to respond swiftly to weather-related emergencies.

The Gombe teenage flood tragedy is a sobering reminder of the real human toll that climate and infrastructure failures can impose.
